The good is the Christmas 2015 pin released this coming Saturday, exclusively in the Pueblo Trading Post over in Frontierland. Santa Stitch, riding reindeer Dumbo with Sleeping Beauty Castle in the background – what’s not to love? The other 3 exclusive pins released on the same day, in the same shop, are nice images, but are examples of the biggest problem with Disneyland Paris pins. That problem being that the majority of ins released are not really Disneyland Paris pins, but simply Disney pins that could be sold anywhere. Look at the 4 Star Wars: The Force Awakens pins released on the 16th, when the film opens in France – generic Star Wars Pins that would not seem out of place in Toys R Us, or anywhere else that sells pins, anywhere in the world. Could they not have thought a little outside of the box and had some Star Tours theming involved. Not only would it have made them unique to Disneyland Paris, but it would have been a nice nod to the possibility (or probability) of Force Awakens scenes coming to Star Tours 2 when it opens in Disneyland Paris in 2017.
The Hiver (Winter) and the Hollywood Tower Hotel pins are great – they not only look good but they relate to Disneyland Paris. The Tinkerbell and Witch pins however do not, and as attractive as they may be, it feels they are missing a trick by not having them tie in with Disneyland Paris attractions and branding. Maybe it’s me that’s off kilter with the demands of the guest, but as a pin collector of 13 years most of these do not interest me due to their generic nature. If any of you collect pins, casually or obsessively, let me know what you think of Disneyland Paris pins and my argument that they need to be more associated with Disneyland Paris. While I’m on my soapbox, pins is plural and doesn’t need an apostrophe as can be seen bottom left.
