It was back in February 2014 that news first leaked of characters being removed from the Disney Hotels in Disneyland Paris, something that had always been one of the biggest selling points of staying in resort hotels, but at risk of being abused by those staying off site and hotel hopping in the early morning whilst putting no money in the Disneyland Paris accounts. Then they came back for Christmas last year, and more recently there were characters at Hotel Cheyenne for a character BBQ that ran only for the month of August in 2016.
Earlier today the new Disneyland Paris brochure was revealed online, physical version available Tuesday according to Holiday Hamster, and one thing that has caught people’s attention is the paragraph highlighting of of the benefits of staying at a Disney Hotel being meeting Disney characters in the hotels.
The 6 hotels being Disneyland Hotel, New York Hotel, Newport Bay Club, Sequoia Lodge, Hotel Cheyenne and Hotel Santa Fe, with Davy Crockett Ranch being the one without characters. This brochure is dated 29th March 2017 – 20th April 2018, so would assume that they won’t return until that date, the same date the breakfast system changes in Disneyland Paris. So it would seem that while breakfasts are no longer going to be a part of the price of staying in a Disney hotel, meeting characters once again will be.
I wonder now if they will take steps to make sure these meets are kept only for on site hotel guests and not open to all, risking long queues from non resort resident guests? Maybe the meets will be only for those who show their hotel pass, or maybe they don’t care and will have it open to everyone. You’d think from a business side of things they’d make it hotel guests only – they have to have some exclusive benefits to staying in the hotels, especially with the breakfasts now not part of the package.
Whatever they decide to do as far as who gets to the meet characters, this a great move, and was sorely missed when it disappeared a couple of years ago. I’m hoping we get hotel specific costumes for the characters, and a variety of characters too, both in the hotels and those appearing in the Parks during Extra Magic Hours too. Breakfast aside, this is one more thing that indicates Disneyland Paris is pulling out all the stops, within their capabilities, to make the 25th Anniversary the very best year ever for guests visiting the resort.
