When Was The Last Time You Didn’t Go To Disneyland Paris For A Whole Year?

I started thinking about this as we enter 2018, and as it stands right now, I have no trips to Disneyland Paris planned for 2018 and can’t see that changing. That got me thinking as to when was the last time I didn’t go to Disneyland Paris for a whole year. I’m thinking calendar month rather than a 12 month period spanning 2 calendar years, but you can answer the question how you wish. 2009, that was the last year I didn’t go to Disneyland Paris, and in fact was the second year in a row I didn’t visit, not getting over there in 2008 either. My son Lucas was born in May 2008, so we didn’t want to take him until we thought he’d appreciate it, which ended up being September 2010. So that’s 9 years ago since I last had a Disneyland Paris free year, which also makes me realise how incredibly lucky I’ve been to go so many times since, and before the drought.

So why am I not going this year? For a number of reasons, the first being cost. My working situation changed dramatically last year, and as such our disposable income is a fraction of what it used to be. I’m not looking for sympathy, I now get to walk Lucas to school every day on my way to work and don’t have 3 hours a day commuting in my car, so don’t feel sorry for me, life is good. But the reality, with the rising costs of a trip to Disneyland Paris, is that we can no longer justify paying that amount, especially being confined to pricey school holiday periods. There’s also a need to divert the funds elsewhere, so money that may have gone on a summer trip to Disneyland Paris, will now go on some much needed decorating and new carpets! Being in Disneyland Paris is amazing, and we love every second, but it’s only for very few days in the year, it’s time to make the house just as magical, or near enough anyway!

Another reason for taking this year as a break is because I don’t see anything going on as being a must do for us. Sure Princesses and Pirates sounds fun, and the Marvel show will be something new, but certainly, in the case of the latter, it’s not going anywhere, so we can see it at some point in the future. Star Wars Season of the Force I’d love to see, but I am rubbish in the cold, and as much as I had considered a solo trip, Lucas is a mad keen Star Wars fan too, and while my wife Denise is a lesser fan, being there as a family is preferable to me, and then comes the cost of it all rearing it’s ugly head once again.

I’ve been so fortunate to have been 8 times between March 2016 and December 2017, which for some folk is nothing, but for me it was 2 to 3 times more a year than I have ever been used to. I think taking a year out will have my return give me a much bigger appreciation for Disneyland Paris and what it has to offer. Being away from Pirates of the Caribbean and Big Thunder Mountain for what could be 18+ months, maybe more, will have me salivating with excitement at getting to experience them again some time in the future. I’ll still be keeping a close eye on developments and publishing my thoughts here, and you never know, something may get announced that has me selling every possession I own to be there, so never say never!

So, back to the original question, when was the last time you didn’t go to Disneyland Paris for a whole year?
